I'm such a birding geek now. I love it. It gives me such a spike of pure joy. Geeking out big time on new birds and old faves.

Pictured is a European Roller trying hard to swallow a snack that was maybe just a tiny bit too big for it. But the bird got there in the end. We probably sat there for 10 minutes, watching it try its damndest to get that huge locust down.

Positivity....oh how I have battled with this one.

Positivity....oh how I have battled with this one. And finding out that basically, a tendency to be negative and cynical can actually be genetic, was a hard blow for my "journey to gratitude".

But I'd like to think I have made some good strides, and this pic kinda helps me believe that.

We were at Augrabies Falls, standing on one of the viewing decks, when a big storm rolled in and it started bucketing down.

It was a fair walk back to camp and either way we'd be soaked, so we just stayed and stood in the rain, trying to shelter our cameras under our clothes. I thought it was all kinda awesome, wet and bedraggled as I was. Definitely a big step toward that whole "it's actually kind of awesome" vibe. And the views and colours in the sky just afterward were exceptional!

Him: "This is too much, my love. We have to leave some stuff. We can't possibly take all this."

Me: "Please find a way. You're the super packer of the car. Tetris Level 5000. We gotta take everything."

Him: shakes head and mutters something.

Me (hours later): gets in the car as we're about to head out, and looks behind me. "Oooooooh".
